2D/3D CONFORMAL THERAPY

Two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) conformal radiation therapy are types of radiation therapy that use advanced imaging technology to precisely deliver radiation beams to match the shape of a tumor while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.

In 2D conformal radiation therapy, the radiation beam is shaped to match the shape of the tumor using lead blocks, which are placed in front of the radiation beam. This helps to minimize the exposure of healthy tissue to radiation, but it can be difficult to achieve precise targeting of the tumor.

In 3D conformal radiation therapy, the radiation beam is shaped to match the exact shape of the tumor using computer imaging technology. This allows for more precise targeting of the tumor and a higher dose of radiation to be delivered, while minimizing the exposure of nearby healthy tissue to radiation.

Both 2D and 3D conformal radiation therapy are typically given over several weeks, with each session lasting about 10-15 minutes.
